Special Excursions

The following excursions are all subject to demand, naturally!

Gigha to Jura:
Journey time 50 minutes, distance 15 miles (13 nautical miles).
Depart Gigha South Pier, arriving at the Pier at Craighouse.
Not uncommon for us to see dolphins or porpoises on this journey. Please note: the Pier at Craighouse has access from the boat only via a vertical ladder.

Gigha to Islay:
Journey time one hour, distance 18 miles (16 nautical miles).
Depart Gigha South Pier, arriving at the pontoons of the new small marina at Port Ellen.

Gigha to Gulf of Corryvreckan:
Journey time to Gulf of Corryvreckan one hour and 45 minutes, distance 35 miles (30 nautical miles).
Depart Gigha South Pier, travelling north up the stunning Sound of Jura, past the house where George Orwell wrote 1984, to the Gulf between the north end of Jura and the south side of Scarba. Here the tide can move at up to 8.5 knots across a convoluted sea floor, creating hundreds of whirlpools at any given moment. These range from small and harmless up to large ones with throats that are best avoided! A fascinating stretch of water, famous as one of the 4 largest whirlpool areas on planet Earth. We typically spend one hour at the Gulf before heading back home to Gigha, so total journey time is about 4 and a half hours.

Gigha to Rathlin Island:
Journey time 2 hours, distance 37 miles (32 nautical miles).
Visit the wonderful island of Rathlin just off the coast of Northern Ireland, near Ballycastle.

Gigha to Ballycastle:
Journey time 2 hours, distance 36 miles (31 nautical miles).

Gigha to Colonsay:
Journey time 2 hours, distance 36 miles (31 nautical miles).

Gigha to Iona:
Journey time 3 hours, distance 58 miles (50 nautical miles).

Gigha to Oban:
Journey time 3 hours, distance 57 miles (49 nautical miles).

Gigha to Tobermory, Isle of Mull:
Journey time 4 hours, distance 76 miles (66 nautical miles).
Only recommended for overnight stays at Tobermory, returning the following day.

Gigha to Tiree / Coll:
Journey time 4 hours, distance 76 miles (66 nautical miles).
Only recommended for overnight stays on Tiree or Coll, returning the following day.
