Frequently Asked Questions
Is the boat safe?
Yes. This is a very seaworthy boat, one which is setting new standards for the industry. Excellent hull design couple with long GRP fabrication work by the manufacturer to make the Ultimate Predator a very safe boat, with good high freeboard to help her cope readily with any unexpected weather. Twin 370 hp diesel engines give her tremendous power. The merit of having twin engines is also that in case of one engine failing the boat is well able to reach home / safe port with the other engine.
Do trips sometimes get cancelled due to poor weather?
Yes. You don't last long around here if you don't respect the power of Nature generally and of the sea in particular.
Can I move around the boat while she is moving?
Yes. We generally cruise at a speed that allows passengers to move freely about the boat. Naturally we ask that you take care as you do so! But the catamaran design is inherently very stable, and the boat has comfortable seating for 10 people outside the wheelhouse as well as seating for 10 people and the skipper inside the wheelhouse. So you can choose whether to be inside or out at any point on the journey or excursion.
What are the facilities on board?
The boat has a unisex toilet on board, as well as a small gas cooker for making tea and coffee.
What are the disembarkation facilities like at the South Pier on Gigha?
In a word, inadequate. Generally we tie up to the pier next to one of the vertical ladders and we give you a hand in and out of the boat. If someone has difficulty with the vertical ladder (and please mention this beforehand if at all possible &) then we can tie up at a lower gangway on the pier, but due to its short length and challenging position, we use this gangway only if the vertical ladder option is not able to be used by a passenger. We are working hard to create a better infrastructure at either the South Pier or possibly elsewhere on Gigha, but nothing is likely to be in place prior to Spring of 2008.
What feedback have you had on the tours and excursions you offer?
Smiles, lots of smiles! One couple from Australia recently emailed us after their visit to say that the boatride around Gigha was one of the highlights of their two weeks in Scotland. And that is pretty typical of the feedback we receive from our passengers.
