Is the boat safe?

Yes. This is a very seaworthy boat, Redbay Boats have been building boats for over 30 years now. The inflated tubes along the sides of the boat make her very stable. And all the safety requirements of the MCA are met or exceeded.

Do trips sometimes get cancelled due to poor weather?

Yes. You don't last long around here if you don't respect the power of Nature generally and of the sea in particular. Generally we won't take trips in winds greater than Force 4. While the boat can take Force 5 seas and more, it becomes increasingly uncomfortable for the passengers.

Can I move around the boat while she is moving?

In a small RIB like the Thalassa, moving about while the boat is in motion is generally not advisable. We usually will be cruising at about 28 knots, so best to remain sitting. If you want to get up and move about, ask the skipper to slow down.

What are the facilities on board?

The Thalassa has no toilet. So please empty your bladder before boarding! We do carry bottled water in case of thirst.

What are the boarding facilities like on Gigha?

With the Thalassa we can tie up at either the catwalk by the Boathouse Café when the tide is in, or at the South Pier. Both work well, and at the South Pier there is a lower landing we can pull up alongside, so it is easy to board the boat.

What feedback have you had on the tours and excursions you offer?

Smiles, lots of smiles! One couple from Australia recently emailed us after their visit to say that the boatride around Gigha was one of the highlights of their two weeks in Scotland. And that is pretty typical of the feedback we receive from our passengers. The Thalassa's special seats make her a far more comfortable RIB than most, and she rides the waves like a boat several tons above her weight. The bench seats at the back work very well for those who want the fresh air, and the best photographic opportunities.
